Toolbar PageRank Update In Progress?

I’ve just noticed that both the Search Status extension for Firefox and the Google Toolbar for IE are reporting More Than Scratch The Surface as having a toolbar PageRank of 5. This is 1 higher than the PR4 the site had the last time I noticed (a couple of days ago).

My secondary site, Jobs In China, is now showing a PR4, where it was previously unranked.

I’ve tried to confirm these figures through about 10 different PageRank checkers, but can’t do so. In most cases, the old values appear. In a few cases, 0 or NaN appear. None show the figures that Search Status and Google Toolbar are showing.

So, is there a toolbar PageRank update in progress?

None of the sites in my feed reader are reporting anything. Perhaps, I’m the first to notice, although I think this unlikely! I just hope it’s not a blip that will be gone in the morning!

I’m out of time to check other sites tonight, so if anyone can confirm that a toolbar PR update is underway, please let me know.

I’ve also noticed the change in all my websites, but like you I could not check in any other pagerank tool.

That would be a huge coincidence if only my websites and blogs were updated in one tool.

      Hi Luiz,

Thanks too for the confirmation. Hope your changes are good ones!

There is a trackback above to Josh Spaulding’s site and his post is saying that http://www.livepr.info/livepr.php seems to be working.

Edit: Actually I just checked and it’s still showing the old values for my sites, so may not be working. I guess the update is in progress…

      Hi Meg,

Yes, I DO subscribe to your feed! I must have missed it… šŸ™‚

Thanks for the link. It’s interesting that the other sites don’t show the changes. Also, thanks for confirming the update.

BTW, I’ll be reporting for duty at Aussie Bloggers in the next few days, when I have my head around things.

    Stephen:

Yes. I think so! However, my sites has not changed due to previous penalties.

      Hi Terence,

Thanks also for the confirmation. Sorry to hear that there’s no change for your site.

    Hi Stephen,
After reading your blog article (I’m a subscriber) I checked in my Firefox for Mac toolbar, and my website (AldebaranWebDesign.com) has indeed gone from 4 to 5. I can’t say the last time I noticed it, but it is definitely new.

I’ve checked a few websites that belong to my clients that I remembered the pagerank of, and am definitely seeing some move up, not all, but enough of them have indeed gone up that I can agree with you that something seems to have changed very recently.

    Thanks for the article!
    Jill

My site hasn’t changed but I know others that have and another one that didn’t. I hope mine goes up soon!

    I love Keyword Luv!

    Jill & Grisha,

Thanks for the feedback. It’s definite that a PageRank update took place recently.

By the way, you can put spaces in the anchor text. I’m not an SEO expert, but it may look more natural with spaces… šŸ™‚

Mine shows you have a PR5 as well. There definitely has been an update. My newest blogs are both showing PR3. All my other blogs that were penalized by Google because I was a bad boy for taking paid assignments are still showing PR0. they were PR4. Seems Google does not forgive bad boys.

      Hi Sire,

Congrats on the PR3s for the new blogs. I’ll have to check them out. Sorry to hear your other sites are PR0.

If you don’t do paid assignments any more and the TOS (of the paid assignment) allows you to nofollow the links after a certain period, then you can normally get the PR back by going to http://www.google.com/sitemaps and requesting reconsideration. You have to tell them what you did wrong and what you did to fix it, they check your site, then (hopefully) remove the penalty.

Of course this is only toolbar PageRank, not real Pagerank…

I don’t think I’ll ever get pagerank. I do virtually nothing to a holding page for a site that is coming soon and wham, the PR of the HP is 4. Another site I have been working on solidly for 2 months is at 2. I think Google just loves playing with webmasters.

      Hi Mark,

At times it seems like more of an Art than a Science doesn’t it? All you can do is keep your head down and keep building links, which I’m sure you’re doing…

I’m not fussed about the PR on those other blogs. They get enough traffic without the PR, not that PR really brings you traffic as I reckon its more about choosing the right keywords and stuff, although half the time I am to slack to worry about that anyway.

  9. GimmePR

I am sure Google is doing something. They might have changed a lot about how PR works by now.

  10. zohai

Yeah.. I’ve been seeing lots of people’s PR increasing. It’s not only you. =) Maybe now more people are getting better PR. Congrats though for the upgrade. Cheers.

Yeah ive noticed on a couple of my sites that are fairly new, they have been given page rank of 3 when before they were unranked. Keep up the good work!

Im happy for you because your PR has increased but I do heard some of high PR blogs/sites has been facing a decrease dramatically on their PR. I do hope mine will stay the way it is now.
